Playa Hermosa...the one by Jaco

Saturday morning we woke up too early to what sounded like an army of drummers in the backyard. The gusty wind would pick up the sound and deliver it to us then just as suddenly, take it away again.  It looked like rain in the Central Valley, so we headed for the sunny beach on the Pacific side. When we left we had yet to decide which beach area we were going to visit. We decided on Playa Hermosa, mainly because we had never been there and because it is supposed to be a big surfer hang out. The drive was easy and the beach was not crowded.  A one lane road paralleled black sand beaches and big surf as far as the eye could see with palm trees and mangrove trees dotting the beach. The water was warm and the day was perfect. We ate at a  open air a-frame restaurant on the beach that served a whole fried red fish. After dinner we took a stroll on the beach at sunset only to reach the car as the full moon was rising over the volcanic hills and palm trees. The camera was safely stowed in the car so no pictures of the second half of the day, but here are a few of the first part of the day!
