Full Moon Kitty
On the 7th of March, the night before the full moon, a little kitten found me. She came into the carport howling. I brought her in and she was shaking and starving. When she ate she said, "nom nom nom nom nom". It took her two days to calm down. Now, she is a happy little girl. She has been with us a week today! She plays with Macy and Mouse and is so lovable. I think she is about 7 weeks old, maybe 8 weeks. We named her Luna.
Tico Time
Well, it looks like I have adjusted to Tico time, based on the rate my recent blogging. The last entry was in May last year! Wow! It is incredibly hard to believe it has been 10 months since I last posted.
A lot can happen in ten months. We have visited new locations, but we have more places to explore. The list of items we haven't accomplished is longer than the list we have and we are quickly running out of time in our current location. As you might recall, I pretty much gave up on the Spanish language classes, a decision that has not made living here any easier. So... to catch up....
June 2011----Brian and I took a visa trip to Baytown, Texas to visit relatives and friends.
July 2011----We were homebodies and just enjoyed our yard and the cats. Fourth of July we had a traditional cook out and had friends over. We took a few hikes around the house that made for pretty photos, and all the rain keeps the yard nice and green. We had a giant death head cockroach in the house. And, we had a bunker crop of limes and star fruit.
August 2011----We have enjoyed having friends over for poker and food. One of our friends brought over his giant German Shepard, Pancho, who was super playful and gentle and well behaved. I took a visa trip to Florida to see family. Brian and I took a trip to Samara and stayed at a friends time share on the beach. We had a great time. At Samara, we hired a guide and did a kayak trip to a small island where Brian snorkeled and I looked at tide pools. We tried a few side trips from Samara but the water was too high in the rivers for us to cross in the Forester. We drove down to Punta Islita and up to Nosara.
October 2011----October was a busy month. Brian's parents had a port call in Puntarenas while they were on their cruise through the Panama Canal. Our car died just before the trip, so we hired a tour company to take Brian and I out to meet them. Together we went to see monkeys, crocodiles, and zip lines!
Then Brian and I went to Archer City, Texas for the Looney family reunion at the Lonesome Dove Inn. The Lonesome Dove Inn used to be the towns hospital, and Meme's dad was actually a patient their for a time. Meme remembers hearing her parents talk about the doctor and one of the nurses being newlyweds. Lyssa slept in the operating room, which was a bright cheerful room with lots of windows. We visited the home Meme grew up in and Lyssa pulled a pomegranate fruit off one of the trees Meme's mother planted in the 1920's. We visited the old movie theater, Meme's father used to own the building. We visited the museum and inside was a painting done by Meme's Aunt Tommie of the old courthouse. Some of her old school class photos were in the museum! And of course we had to pose with the Oscar award.
At the house back in Escazu we were visited by a flock of squawking green love parrots.
November 2011----Thanksgiving was nontraditional. We had friends visit from San Diego that arrived on Thanksgiving Day, Tika and Sarah. Tika wanted only traditional food while she was here and so we obliged by taking her to Casona de Laly and other local places. We drove to Arenal for the volcanic hot springs of Tabacon, zip lines and Tarzan swing, and then to Cahuita for the wildlife and beach. It was a rainy visit, but the sun came out when it mattered.
December 2011----We visited Baytown for the Christmas holidays. I left Costa Rica a couple weeks ahead of Brian to spend time with my brother and his family as they added a new 9.5lb baby boy. I was able to see a lot of family during the visit on both sides.
January 2012----Back in Escazu...For a two week period we were visited by some of the largest spiders I have seen to date. Then they just disappeared. The rain has stopped. It is definitely the dry season. Brian and I took a few drives. We visited Cuidad Colon and took pictures of the church in their town square. We had a small landslide in the back of the house.
February 2012----Ah, the winds of the dry season...We have the most amazing gusty winds in Escazu. They shake the house. We lost another large tree limb, but Brian and I threw it over the deck. We have been visited recently by a grey male kitty that has become brave enough to walk into the kitchen and eat out of our cats' food bowls. He is a sweet boy. We have named him Grey Kitty or Moochie. We get a lot of cat traffic at our place. I think the whole neighborhoods' cats visit us. Our banana tree is producing fruit.
I took a trip to help Lyssa move her things from Florissant, MO to Florida. The travel was a nightmare and it was COLD. My trip took me from here to Ft. Lauderdale, to Charleston SC, to St. Louis MO, to Florissant MO, to Chicago IL, to Cleveland OH, to Orlando FL, to Lecanto FL, and home. I was able to see Lyssa and the family and Meme. It was quite a busy trip.

Samara
September 2011----We tried our hand at night sky photography from the top of our mountain in Escazu. It is pretty difficult without a tripod!
